Before each high school football season starts, either Narbonne or Crenshaw high schools could be penciled into the City Section Division I championship game, and occasionally they both can.

Since 2005, Crenshaw has played in the title game five times, winning the championship in four of those tries. Their only title game loss came in 2012, when Narbonne knocked them off.

Over that time period, Narbonne has been to the title game six times, winning three. The only team to defeat them has been Crenshaw, who knocked them off in 2009 and 2013. Narbonne tied San Pedro in the title game in 2008.

One of these two schools have been in the title game in each of the last seven years, and they have faced each other three times, with Crenshaw winning twice. This year marks the third time in four years that they have both made the championship game.

Narbonne is the favorite in the game this year, but that was also the case in 2013, when Crenshaw upset them. This has become the premier matchup in the City Section, with both teams producing several outstanding college football players.

In Division II, Fairfax returns to the title game, which they won in 2004 and 2010. But this time they may be up against an opponent that looks unbeatable.

This year, Los Angeles has defeated their three playoff opponents by a combined score of 176-20.

In the five seasons before current head coach Eric Scott took over, Los Angeles had a combined record of 14-32. In the two seasons under him, the school has a combined record of 24-2-1, a Division III title, and now they have moved up and are looking for a Division II title.

In a two year period, they have gone from the bottom of the City Section to becoming a dominant program. On the other hand, their opponent, Fairfax, has championship experience, so this should be a much more competitive contest than Los Angeles’ previous playoff games.
