Turkey giveaways tomorrow (Nov 24)

A number of turkey giveaways will take place tomorrow in and around greater Los Angeles.

—The Inner-City Games and Hollenbeck Youth Center will present the 34th annual turkey giveaway, during which 500 turkeys and fixings will be donated to selected inner-city families. Funds for the turkeys were donated by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Families can line up at 9 a.m.; the distribution will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center, located at 2015 E. 1st St.

—State Sen. Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) and area water agency officials and grocers will present tomorrow “Operation Gobble” which will collect turkeys for organizations that assist families in need. This is not a distribution event, but an opportunity for turkey donations to some of the area’s most needy families. Visit the parking lot area of Cerritos College tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., 11199 166th St.

—Members of the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy in Compton from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow will help to distribute 10,000 turkeys to needy residents of Compton, North Long Beach, Paramount and South Los Angeles. The event is part of the youth facility’s 11th annual “Healthy Family Legislative Update and Turkey Giveaway” and is hosted by state Sen. Isadore Hall III (D-Los Angeles), Compton Mayor Asia Brown, Covered California and staff from the Los Angeles Dodgers. The academy is located at 901 E. Artesia Blvd.

–The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Los Angeles and food distributor Sysco Corp. will distribute 300 turkeys and traditional fixings to pre-selected families chosen  through their local Catholic church. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Lincoln Heights, 210 N. Ave. 21.

–Members of the Maywood City Council tomorrow at 10 a.m. will begin distributing turkeys in an event sponsored by the Maywood Chamber of Commerce and United Steel Workers Local 675. The event will take place at the Steelworkers Hall, 4735 E. Slauson Ave.
