Color Vibe returns to Palmdale

The city of Palmdale has announced the return of the popular Color Vibe 5K run set for Jan. 23, 2016. The event will kickoff at 9 a.m. at the Palmdale Amphitheater, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd.

“Last year’s Palmdale Color Vibe was a huge success, and it’s going to be even bigger next year,” said John Mylnar, Palmdale communications manager. “It’s a unique 5K where participants run, walk or dance their way through stations, where they get ‘blasted’; with blue, yellow, pink and purple colors.”

The Color Vibe Race Series takes place throughout the United States and is also popular in Canada; New Zealand; Japan; London, England; and Sydney, Australia. It serves as a fun way to raise money for charity.

The colors are actually paint and it is only temporary. What organizers do is use a cornstarch-based colored power to, essentially, “tie-dye” participants. The colored powder is an American-made product composed of quality cornstarch using an advanced manufacturing process that’s been custom developed for the Color Vibe Race Series. It’s non-toxic, 100-percent safe and biodegradable. It washes easily from skin and hair. Because the “cornstarch color” may irritate the eyes, throat or lungs, participants usually wear glasses or goggles to cover their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local charity which will be announced at a later date.

Registration is available by visiting www.cityofpalmdale.org/TheAmp. The fee for individual runners is $60 per runner ($55 per team). Registration on race day (if not sold out) is $65 per runner ($70 per team plus a processing fee). The registration fee includes entry into the 5K Color Vibe Run, a race bib and a Color Vibe color pack. Children ages 1 to 12 years are admitted free with a paid adult; up to two children can be registered with each paid adult. Also, event T-shirts will be available for purchase on race day.

At the conclusion there will be a large—and colorful—dance party hosted by a professional sound crew and DJ.
