A Proposition 47 clinic and resource fair will be conducted tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Shields for Families-Jericho Vocational Services Center, 321 N. Alameda St., in Compton.

Proposition 47 was an initiative approved last year that reduces the classification of most “non-serious and non-violent property and drug crimes” from a felony to a misdemeanor. Felonies such as simple drug possession; petty theft, shoplifting or forgery where the cost of each amounts to $950 or less; writing a bad check of $950 or less; or receiving stolen property valued at $950 or less can now be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor status.

Interested persons should bring any court document that is relevant to the Proposition 47 felony status. A copy of a Los Angeles County court record may be obtained for free at any superior courthouse within the county. Also bring results of a live-scan report (if available), and a “rap sheet” (if available). The clinic will also provide access to a person’s criminal record from Los Angeles County. You must bring proper identification (e.g. a driver’s license) to use the free live scan service, which will be available on site.

The clinic and resource fair will also provide employment services, educational resources, and additional information related to legal, health, support, behavioral and housing services. You can also enroll for Medi-Cal at no charge.

Among the sponsors of the clinic are We Are the Drug Policy Alliance, Shields for Families, the Los Angeles Regional Reentry Partnership,  and Vision for Compton in partnership with Compton Mayor Aja Brown.

Interested parties must RSVP at www.lareentry.org. For more details, call Eunisses Hernandez at (213) 226-6426.
