AVTA debuts digital signs

The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) has completed the installation of digital LED signs that are designed to display up-to-the-minute information about bus departures at its transportation centers in Lancaster and Palmdale.

The digital signs are the latest aspect of the transit agency’s “Track-It Intelligent Transportation System” which began in January. The system provides 24-hour access seven days a week regarding bus departure information for customers who use their computer or smartphone via GPS. The AVTA believes the new system will enhance the convenience of having real-time bus information when needed.

Customers at Lancaster City Park can view bus information on one of four new signs which are mounted to the light poles located in the middle of the transit platform. There are five digital signs at the Palmdale Transportation Center (one in each bus shelter and another inside the waiting area).

The signs change constantly and display real-time bus departure information for all routes, as well as the current date, time and weather, all synchronized with fleet operations and a scrolling message line. There is also an audio button that when pressed will announce to sight-impaired customers all of the information that is currently displayed digitally.
