Free city open house set

On May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the city of Lancaster will turn its maintenance yard into a miniature city where families, school groups and interested citizens can see, the many different functions that city personnel perform to keep the town clean and safe.

The free open house will take place at 615 W. Avenue H and is being held in conjunction with the American Public Works Association’s National Public Works Week which takes place from May 17-23.

Attendees will see demonstrations showcasing: graffiti cleanup, the inner workings of a traffic signal, and a robotic camera used to inspect sewer systems. Also featured will be a ride in an aerial lift and photo opportunities in a variety of large public works  vehicles and heavy equipment. There will also be an chance to see firsthand the city’s award-winning 24-hour Recycling Center, as well as learn about Lancaster’s Choice Energy program.
