The city of Palmdale, in partnership with the Energy Network, will begin on May 2 its Upgrade 100 Homes for Energy Efficiency campaign by hosting a free “Greener Homes Workshop” from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Manzanita Neighborhood Center, 38627 East 32nd Street.

The presentation will cover how your home uses and loses energy, discuss rebates and financing (available through Home Upgrade) and what to consider before installing solar equipment. Local contractors who are participating in the statewide Energy Upgrade California home upgrade rebate program will be present to answer questions.

“This workshop will give you all the information you need to get started on making your home more energy efficient and valuable,” said Ben Lucha, Palmdale administrative analyst. “We are coinciding this workshop with our other environmentally-friendly events such as Environmental Pride Month and the 2015 Season of Service, to help bring our city closer to a greener, more sustainable future. Our goal is to help make 100 Palmdale homes more energy efficient which will reduce energy costs for the homeowners and improve the overall environment.”

Palmdale has been working on a regular basis with the Energy Network, a non-profit organization that provides rebates and incentives for energy-efficient retrofits through its Home Upgrade program that operates throughout Los Angeles County. The Home Upgrade program will continue through November. The scheduled events will include homeowner outreach and information and may help to provide an outlet for homeowners to make innovative, energy-efficient retrofits to their homes while still remaining affordable.

“This co-sponsorship with the Energy Network supported by state-sponsored rebates and incentives through Energy Upgrade California will not only make our homes more efficient, comfortable and valuable, but will also help us reach our energy-use reductions goals,” said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford.

Home Upgrade is supported through statewide energy efficiency funds. Rebates and incentives can reportedly help homeowners take the next step toward more comfortable, healthy living. The program includes two levels of rebates: (1) up to $3,000 in rebates and incentives for pursuing three or more energy efficiency upgrades from a menu of options, and (2) rebates through “Advance Home Upgrades” that offer money back for pursuing a comprehensive, customized energy efficiency upgrade.

The Energy Network’s Home Upgrade applies to owners of single-family homes within the county who are customers of both Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company
