Crenshaw has dominated Dorsey over the past seven years, with most of the games being blowouts. But this year, many thought that Dorsey would give their long-time rival a run for their money.

This game was not a blowout, as Dorsey hung in there and had their chances, but Crenshaw controlled the game from the very start, and won 23-7.

A long punt return in the first quarter by Marquis Lawson set up a one-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Morris. On Crenshaw’s next possession they drove 70 yards, and Marcus Walton capped off the drive with a 36-yard touchdown.

Dorsey struggled to move the ball early on, and they did not gain a first down until midway through the second quarter, so it looked like Crenshaw was going to run away with this game. But, Dorsey’s passing game got on track as quarterback Rodney Evans hit Donald Hayes on a 30-yard touchdown pass. Crenshaw added a field goal just before the half, making the score 17-7.

Early in the fourth quarter Dorsey scored a one-yard touchdown, but it was called back because of a holding penalty. They were unable to score in that possession, and Crenshaw iced the game with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Daiyan Henley to Walton.

The victory pretty much locks up the Coliseum League, unless Crenshaw is upset over the course of the remaining league games, which is highly unlikely.

Venice’s 43-game Western League

winning streak snapped

Venice had not lost a Western League game since Fairfax knocked them off in 2005. Since then, they have won the league title every year while running right through their rivals.

This past Friday night it all came to an end, as University scored a 14-7 victory.  It was their first victory over Venice since 1996.

Venice is having a down year, while University looks like they are on the rise. During the evening game, University played great defense, and running back Tyrone Nelson rushed for 217 yards and scored both touchdowns.
