Art lovers have one more week to view “Mama’s Fabric: Weaving America Together,” an art exhibit on display at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th Street East in Palmdale.

Featuring photographic art by John Broussard, “Mama’s Fabric” tells the story of Beatrice Dixon, an extraordinary mother, community organizer and passionate seamstress. She became a mother figure to people from all walks of life, who began providing her with beautiful pieces of fabric.
Broussard began studying photography in 1968 through an apprenticeship sponsored by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He gained his formal education from Bakersfield College, California State University Los Angeles, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Department of Defense. Broussard also served in the United States Air Force for 23 years. Through his travels and varied interests, he has had the opportunity to display his work both nationally and internationally, and has received many awards. His photo credits include compact disc and book covers, photos in Ebony, Jet and other magazines, and numerous photojournalism assignments around the world.
“Broussard’s photographs of Dixon’s fabrics bring more than 30 Americans from diverse ethnic backgrounds together to tell about their American journeys and how they feel about being American,” said Theatre Operations Coordinator Debbie Barrientes.
