On Nov. 23, more than 200 bikers will take to the streets as part of the Block Bikes returning Block Jam event. The riders will proceed along Avenue L from the Block Bikes shop to Quartz Hill High School for a memorial fundraiser ride, as well as a Bike Fest back at the shop.
“We as a city take immense pride in our citizens who participate in such events which promote a healthy lifestyle,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “We are dedicated to continually expanding Lancaster’s ever-growing culture of fitness by encouraging events such as this.”
After the ride from Block Bikes to Quartz Hill High School, riders will be given the opportunity to participate in a scramble. This is where participants bike to various checkpoints throughout the Antelope Valley, and riders accumulate points at each location then return to the shop by noon to see who has collected the most points.
From noon until 6 p.m., Block Bikes will host a Bike Fest at their location at 604 W. Avenue L, featuring BMX ramp demos, a vintage bike show, music, and food. Professional bike riders and their sponsors will also attend. The registration fee to enter the ride and scramble is $25. The Bike Fest is free, with BMX enthusiasts having the opportunity to pay $25 to ride on the BMX course.
“All proceeds go towards families affected by cycling accidents,” said Rich Bartlett of Block Bikes. “In putting on this event, we are hoping to bring out the general public in order to see how enjoyable cycling can be, both for those adults who have had some exposure to our events in the past, but also to the kids who are joining the ride for the first time.”
