LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Police hope a $50,000 reward announced today will flush out whoever was involved in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting that killed a 17-year-old high school football player.

The attack occurred about 12:05 a.m. Aug. 3 near Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue in Leimert Park, the LAPD reported.

Bijan Shoushtari, a football captain at Hamilton High School, “was driving with two friends in the area … (when) suspects in a gray or silver vehicle drove alongside, and a suspect from the vehicle began shooting at Bijan and his passengers,” police said in a statement. “Bijan was struck by the gunfire and mortally wounded.”

The teen died two days later at a hospital.

The reward was offered by the Los Angeles City Council. Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call Detective Paul Funicello, (213) 485-4341, or (877) LAPD-247.

Police scheduled a news conference for this afternoon at the LAPD’s 77th Street Station.

“We need help,” said LAPD Detective Sal LaBarbera said.
