Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton was named today as a player development coach of the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA Development League team.

Walton played nine seasons with the Lakers and was a member of their 2009 and 2010 NBA championship teams. He was an assistant coach for the University of Memphis during the 2011 NBA lockout.

“We’re very excited to add Luke to our staff,” D-Fenders President/CEO Joey Buss said. “His championship experience will help build upon the winning culture that has been established with the D-Fenders.

“His extensive and successful NBA career will allow him to instill the work ethic it requires for our players to reach the NBA.”
