With nationwide release slated to begin Saturday and Oscar buzz in high gear, “12 Years A Slave” finished in the top 10 in terms of box office sales on the second weekend of its showing. The film—which chronicles the journey of a free Black man kidnapped into slavery and then back to his life in New York—raked in $923,715 the first week after opening on only 19 screens; $2.1 million last weekend; and $3,394,268 million in total domestic sales.

The top draw for the weekend was a bawdy slapstick comedy, “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.” It knocked sci-fi thriller “Gravity” out of the top spot at the box office, according to final figures released Monday.

“Bad Grandpa” opened with $32 million at North American theaters, besting “Gravity,” which slipped to second place after three weeks in the top spot with $20.1 million between Friday and Sunday, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.

“Gravity,” starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, had earned $199.6 million in its four weeks of release.

The Tom Hanks thriller “Captain Phillips” earned $11.6 million to finish third for the weekend, while “The Counselor” debuted with $7.8 million.

“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” topped the $100 million mark by collecting $6.3 million over the weekend. The film has been in theaters for five weeks.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Carrie” ($6 million); “Escape Plan” ($4.5 million); “12 Years A Slave” ($2.1 million); “Enough Said” ($1.6 million); and “Prisoners” ($1.1 million).
