PALMDALE, Calif. — A dispute that started at a Mobil station in Palmdale today ended with a shooting that left a 7-year-old girl on life support and not expected to survive.

The car-to-car shooting happened near Sunburst and Stratford drives, shortly after two groups exchanged words at the Mobil station at Pear Blossom Highway and Fort Tejon Road about 12:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s Lt. Glenn Brandon.

Los Angeles County paramedics, who airlifted the girl to a hospital, said she was in extremely critical condition. Family members, who identified the girl as Desiree Macias, said she had been shot in the head and was expected to be taken off life support at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles once her family had a chance to see her for a final time.

Sheriff’s deputies said one group followed the other away from the Mobil station, and shots were fired at several locations, Brandon said.

A sheriff’s deputy later stopped a vehicle matching that of the shooter’s, and three men were arrested in a felony stop, he said. The names of the suspects were withheld pending booking.

Brandon said detectives found evidence at at least three shooting scenes, and shells were found at 57th Street and East Avenue S. Evidence also was being collected near Regency Place and Essex Drive, he said.

Anyone with more information was asked to call sheriff’s deputies at (661) 272-2400. Tipsters can also call L.A. Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPs.
