COMPTON, Calif. — Authorities sought the public’s help today to solve the killing of an 84-year-old man who was gunned down in his Compton home.

Thomas Dunbar was fatally shot about 10 a.m. July 25 as he slept in the front bedroom of his home in the 1000 block of South Northwood Avenue, according to the sheriff’s department.

No description was available of the suspect or suspects in the shooting, but detectives circulated security photos of two cars believed to be connected with the crime. They were described as a black or dark green 4-door sedan, and a white sedan with a black front driver’s-side fender.
