Hollywood’s weird summer continued this weekend, with some big-budget movies bombing and some small-budget flicks blossoming.

“The Conjuring” opened in first place, with a $41.5 million gate, according to studio estimates gathered by Hollywood.com Box Office.

“Despicable Me 2” was in second place with a $25 million estimate, and has drawn $276.2 million domestically in three weeks of showings.

“Turbo” opened in third place with a $31.2 million premiere. “Grown Ups 2” was in fourth with a $20 million weekend and $79.5 million over two weeks of exhibition.

“Red 2” opened in fifth place, with an $18.5 million premiere.

“Pacific Rim,” in its second week of showings, had a $16 million weekend and $68.2 million running total.

“R.I.P.D” drew just $12.7 million in projected attendance, a likely disappointment to Universal, which spent a reported $130 million to make it. It opened in seventh place.

Rounding out the final three spots in the top 10 movie list this week, as estimated by the studios, were “The Heat” ($9.3 million), “World War Z” ($5.2 million) and “Monsters University” ($5 million).
