LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles police today sought the public’s help in locating the hit-and-run driver whose car killed an 18-year-old pedestrian, an LAPD spokesman said.

The fatal collision happened at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and 78th Street, Officer Gregory Baek said.

The victim—identified as Markeis Vonreece Parish of Los Angeles — was walking eastbound across Crenshaw Boulevard when he was struck by the early-2000s model silver Mercedes-Benz, that continued southbound on Crenshaw, Baek said.

Parish was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

Police said the suspect vehicle was found at Spinning Avenue and Imperial Highway within an hour. It was abandoned and had not been reported stolen.

The driver was described only as a black male, and authorities urged anyone with information about the fatality to contact LAPD South Traffic detectives at (323) 421-2500 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
