Palmdale’s Tiny Tots courses now accepting registration

Palmdale’s culture and recreation department is accepting registrations for the next sessions of Tiny Tots, an early childhood recreation program that offers an educational curriculum for children ages 3-5 years old.

“Tiny Tots provides a fun, safe and developmentally appropriate environment that will help your child build social skills and independence, while being introduced to the alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Coordinator Jennifer Tallakson.

Tiny Tots classes will be held at Desert Sands Park, located at 39117 Third St. East, Marie Kerr Park Recreation Center, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd., and Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, 3850 East Ave. South.

The sessions for “Twinkling Stars,” designed for ages 3 and 4, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon from Aug. 13 to Oct. 31.

The session for “Blazing Comets,” designed for ages 4 and 5, and will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Aug. 12 to Nov. 1.

Participants may register online at www.cityofpalmdale.org, or at the recreation and culture office, 38260 10th St. East in Palmdale Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Participants in “Twinkling Stars” should be a minimum of 3 years old by Oct. 1, 2013. The fee is $120 for Palmdale residents and $144 for nonresidents.

Participants in “Blazing Comets” should be a minimum of 4 years old by Oct. 1, 2013. The fee is $240 for Palmdale residents and $288 for nonresidents. There is a limit of 20 children per class. A birth certificate is required at the time of the first meeting or at registration.

“Children should be fully potty-trained and accustomed to parental separation,” said Tallakson.

During two classes in the session, parents are required to assist, provide a snack and a simple hands-on craft project. A sibling discount is available for each session.
