RePower LA and a coalition of more than 30 environmental, community, faith and labor organizations will hold the next in a series of Green the Block energy efficiency events July 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Puente Learning Center in Boyle Heights.

The event will feature workshops on energy conservation, an opportunity to sign up for a free Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP), as well as the chance to sign up for a free home (apartment) retrofit by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).

Additionally, information will be provided about the Utility Pre-Craft Trainee Program (UPCT). This three-year job training program prepares individuals to take and pass the city’s civil service exam for positions such as lines people within the LADWP.

Those accepted into the UPCT program will be paid a salary and have full health benefits for the length of the training.

For additional information on the energy event, call RePower LA at (213) 977-9400.
