Planning Commissioner Sandy Smith has resigned from her position in order to begin work as the new chief operating officer of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.

Having served on both the Planning Commission as well as the Criminal Justice Commission, the city honored her time spent and dedication towards making Lancaster a better community.

“While we will miss Sandy’s presence on the Commission, we are pleased to see her continuing to serve our community by accepting this latest opportunity,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “We wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors, and we hope to continue to find occasions for collaboration and partnership with her in her new position.”

Commissioner Smith was first appointed to the Planning Commission in 2008 and served until 2010 in that capacity. She then served from 2010 to 2011 on the Criminal Justice Commission, and was later reappointed to the Planning Commission in 2012.

Smith currently serves on the Board of the Antelope Valley Fair Association, the 50th District Agricultural Association, and as a past president of Lancaster West Rotary.

Mayor R. Rex Parris concluded, “The city is indebted to Commissioner Smith for her excellent work and diligent efforts in helping Lancaster to continue to grow in a manner that will benefit residents for years to come.”
