IT training program offered

West Los Angeles College (WLAC) and PV JOBS have partnered to provide training, recruitment and job placement services to the long-term unemployed and military veterans to help them secure employment in the information technology industry.

The H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant Program was launched as part of a $5 million, four-year grant recently awarded to the college and is designed to take people with some technical skills and upgrade their capabilities. Eligible applicants can obtain free training for IT certifications in areas such as web development, database administration, computer network management, Javascipt/C# developer or programmer, iOS developer and more. They may also receive discounted exam fees.

Eligible individuals must be more than 18 years of age, have a legal right to work in the United States, have the ability to complete WLAC courses and obtain certifications, be unemployed (long and short-term), be underemployed, and be a woman, minority or veteran.

Interested individuals must have a photo ID, a Social Security card, be registered with the Selective Service (females exempt), have the unemployment insurance benefits letter (award, denial or exhaustion), have documented IT experience, access to a computer with Internet connection, and be prepared to complete an accelerated training program.
