Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man Thursday while serving a drug-related search warrant in the Littlerock area near Palmdale.

The shooting occurred about 7:30 a.m. in the 36600 block of 117th Street East, according to the sheriff’s department. No deputies were injured.

Authorities withheld the name of the dead man, pending notification of relatives.

“A sheriff’s narcotics team was serving a narcotics-related search warrant at this location,” sheriff’s Lt. Dave Dolson told ABC7.

“They made entry into one of the residences on the property,” Dolson said. “One of the narcotics persons encountered a resident who was armed with a handgun inside the location, and a shooting occurred.”

It was the second fatal deputy-involved shooting in the county on Thursday morning. Shortly before 6 a.m., a man allegedly armed with a handgun was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in the 1100 block of West Arbutus Street in Compton. No deputies were injured.

The man, who was in his 20s, died at the scene, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His name was withheld pending family notification. No deputies were injured.
