CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” was named as best comedy series and cast members Kaley Cuoco and Simon Helberg also won awards at tonight’s third annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
Helberg was named best supporting actor in a comedy series while Cuoco tied with Eden Sher from ABC’s “The Middle” for best supporting actress in a comedy series in the ceremony at The Beverly Hilton hosted by “Parks and Recreation” actress Retta.
“The Big Bang Theory” topped FX’s “Louie”; “The Middle”; Fox’s “New Girl”; NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” and HBO’s “Veep” to win for best comedy series.
AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones” tied for best drama series. The field also included FX’s “The Americans”; “Downton Abbey,” of the Public Broadcasting Service; CBS’ “The Good Wife”; and Showtime’s “Homeland.”
“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston was named best actor in a drama series for the second consecutive year. “Louie” star Louie C.K. won for best actor in a comedy for the second consecutive year.
“Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus was named best actress in a comedy series. Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s “Orphan Black” won for best actress in a drama series.
HBO’s Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” was named best movie or miniseries and its star, Michael Douglas was named best actor in a movie or miniseries.
Named as most exciting new series were FX’s “The Bridge”; ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”; Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” and “Ray Donovan”; NBC’s “The Michael J. Fox Show”; and CBS’ “Under the Dome.”
HBO received five awards, FX four and CBS and NBC three each.
Bob Newhart received the Critics’ Choice Television Icon Award.
ABC Family’s “Bunheads” received the Critics’ Choice Inspiration Award, which honors a series for illuminating the fine arts in its subject matter and production methods.
The awards honored programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013, except for the most exciting new series, which are shows premiering after June 1, 2013.
