LOS ANGELES, Calif. — An SUV and a full-sized pickup truck were torched in the Florence-Firestone area this morning, prompting an investigation by the sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail.

The vehicles were set ablaze shortly after 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of 76th Street near Hooper Avenue, said Sgt. Paul Lombardo of the sheriff’s Century Station. A male was seen throwing items into the vehicles, setting them on fire, he said.

Windows on the pickup and SUV appeared to have been smashed so the arsonist could access the vehicles’ interiors, a news photographer reported from the scene.

The sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail was investigating, Lombardo said.
