LOS ANGELES, Calif. — For the 69th year, Fred Jordan Missions will be honoring hundreds of impoverished moms with a luncheon banquet for them and their children and offering free manicures, makeup and gifts. Dozens of volunteers will give their time and skills to treat struggling mothers from Skid Row and the inner city to a complete beauty makeovers, helping to restore their dignity and self-confidence.

While moms are enjoying a special day of pampering, their children will be treated to a day of fun and games — as well as little gifts. Each mom will leave the mission with fresh flowers and bulging gift bags.

The public is invited to see and hear the challenges of what it means to be a hungry and homeless mother living on Skid Row with her children.

Hear Willie Jordan, the only female President of an inner city Skid Row mission in the nation, and the mother of seven children herself. Willie and her late husband Fred Jordan, brought their seven children to Skid Row every holiday, where they all helped serve the less fortunate before having their own holiday celebrations.

See first-hand how the face of homelessness has changed, with women and children making up more than 40% of the homeless population nationwide. Attendees will learn how they can help make a difference in the lives of impoverished families.

The event will take place Saturday, May 11 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Fred Jordan Mission, 445 Towne Avenue, Los Angeles.
