Daniel Lee Jones, 71, succumbs

Daniel Lee Jones, a native of Dekalb, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 2, in Inglewood. He was 71.

He was born to Leonard Clevland Jones and Ida Mae Bailey on Jan. 17, 1942, the third of seven children.

Jones attended Booker T. Washington elementary and high schools. He was active in the high school band and choir.

After graduation, Jones moved to Los Angeles and attended Los Angeles City College and UCLA.
In March 1964, he began what would become a 41-year career with Los Angeles County, advancing to senior contract administrator with the Department of Health Services.

Jones married Patricia “Pat” Phelps Roberts on April 21, 1973, and the couple recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

A Jehovah’s Witness, Jones was a loyal follower and an elder. He was active in several sports, including basketball, golf and bowling. He was a member of the Western States Golf Association.

Jones will be remembered as a very generous, hospitable and loving man who often opened his home to family, friends, and the congregation’s book study.

Jones is survived by his wife, Pat; a daughter, Robin; a son, Dale, and a daughter-in-law, Denise; sisters, Etta Mae (Michael) Antwine, Johnnye M. (James) Heliton and Joyce Ann (Tommy) Gould; brothers, Robert (Patsy) Jones, Lonnie Earl (Marva) Jones, and Carl D. (Rosalind) Jones; grandchildren, Kira (Damon) Jones, Mia Roberts, Morgan Boyd, and Jessica Roberts; great-grandson, Ethan Jones.

Viewing will be Thursday, May 9, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. The memorial service will be Friday, May 10, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4523 W. Slauson Ave. in Los Angeles. Interment will be Friday at 12 p.m. at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
