HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A man died today at a hospital after being Tasered by Los Angeles police, authorities said.

The man died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center about 1 a.m., coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

According to the preliminary investigation, police went to the 400 block of North Vermont Avenue about 11:20 p.m. Thursday on a report of a traffic crash possibly involving a drunken driver, Los Angeles police Officer Tenesha Dobine of the Media Relations office said.

The man “became combative,” and the officers used a Taser on him, Dobine said. He was taken into custody and was transported for hospital treatment, Dobine said.
