LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Empowered UCLA Extension — a collaboration between UCLA Extension and a Silicon Valley company called Empowered Careers — announced today it is offering a free online course to any active U.S. Armed Forces member or anyone who recently was honorably discharged.

The offer, which includes free career counseling, extends to “eligible family members,” Empowered UCLA Extension said in a statement. It applies only to the spring quarter, which begins April 10.

Eligible veterans, active service members or their families need to own or have access to an iPad to enroll. The deadline for enrollment is Monday, April 1. Those interested in enrolling should call 1-800-EMPOWER or visit www.empowered.com/vets.

The statement said the online classes starting next month are in 10 certificate programs matching areas of job growth: Global Sustainability, Health Care Management, Nonprofit Management, IT Management, Patient Advocacy, College Counseling, Project Management, Financial Planning, Human Resources and
Marketing and New Media.

“We must do more to address the career pathways of our active duty and transitioning service members. This is just one step to help our military members transition from service into successful careers in areas of job growth,” Steve Poizner, co-founder and CEO of Empowered UCLA Extension, said of the free-course offer.

“These men and women have the necessary skills to enter the pipeline to several prosperous jobs. We hope that online training from a prestigious school like UCLA Extension combined with career counseling can turn career aspirations into reality.”
