INGLEWOOD, Calif.–A 22-year-old man wounded by police after allegedly threatening a handyman with a gun at an Inglewood apartment building was in custody today following a two-hour standoff.

Police went to the building in the 500 block of Arbor Vitae Street near Osage Avenue around 11 a.m. Tuesday in response to a call reporting that a man had brandished a firearm, said Inglewood police Lt. Neal Cochran.

“The suspect pointed a gun at the officers who were on scene and an officer involved-shooting occurred,” said Inglewood police Lt. James Madia.

The bullet that hit the suspect passed through his left bicep, Cochran said.

The man retreated back into his residence, where he barricaded himself for around two hours, Madia said. Inglewood police SWAT and Emergency Response teams were called in, and the man was taken into custody around 1 p.m., he said, adding that the suspect’s weapon was recovered and no officers were hurt.

The man was treated at a hospital, Madia said. His name was being withheld pending further investigation into the shooting.
