The third annual TRI-CARSON presented by Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center is set to run, bike, swim on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, on Sunday Nov. 4.

Organized by CSU Dominguez Hills, the city of Carson, and LBTri, TRI-CARSON is a reverse sprint triathlon, but the day includes a number of activities that promise to keep everyone in the community on their feet. The triathlon gets under way at 8 a.m.

Geared for beginners, but with enough challenges to make it competitive for the experienced triathlete, the reverse sprint tri incorporates a 5-K run, a 12-mile bicycle ride, and a 150-meter swim. The run and cycling legs of the race take a multi-lap route around the campus, and the cycling portion, goes around the Dominguez Technology Center Business Park. The swim takes place in the university pool.

New this year is two- to three-person relay division for the triathlon, and a kid’s super-sprint reverse triathlon (1/5 mile run, 4-mile bike ride, and 150-meter swim) for ages 7-15, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. There is also the Train 4 Autism 5-K at 8:10 a.m., a 1-mile campus walk at 8:20 a.m., and a 500-meter kids dash (ages 10 and younger) at 9:30 a.m.

Last year, more than 300 people participated in the day’s events, providing the opportunity to join members of the campus and the greater community in promoting a healthful, active lifestyle.

People can register up until the day of the race, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Registration is $95 for the triathlon, $175 for a relay team, $35 for the 5-K, $15 for the walk, and $10 for the kids dash.

Event partners include Train 4 Autism, the Gardena-Carson YMCA, RaceWire, BeginnerTriathlete.com, CB Orthodontics, Cali Headwear, RoadID, the Renaissance, and Bio Freeze.
