Every now and then so much is happening in the entertainment world that I feel compelled to report it all, or as much as I can. From an outstanding concert benefiting communities here and abroad, to film breakthroughs and inside information on an exciting Hollywood career, it’s all right here.

First up, this Friday, Oct. 19, Faithful Central Bible Church will present a benefit concert featuring the legendary artists Gladys Knight and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel.

The concert is in support of a new initiative launched in the spring of 2012 by Faithful Central and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles to promote and develop healthy homes and healthy families within communities, locally and around the world. Based in Inglewood, but with a global reach, Celebrate Home & Health™ combines education and coalition-building to advance environmental and economic empowerment within our community.

With the help of corporate and civic partners and thousands of caring individuals throughout the Greater Los Angeles area, Faithful Central plans to build or entirely renovate homes within the local community as well as provide much-needed home exterior repairs (paint, landscaping, roof, etc.) through Habitat for Humanity’s “A Brush with Kindness” program. In addition, through Habitat for Humanity’s global network, Faithful Central plans to build and renovate in economically challenged regions of South Africa.

Known as the “Empress of Soul,” Gladys Knight will open the show. And the silky smooth sounds of Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will close the night out at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel at 2025 Avenue of the Stars in Los Angeles. Don’t forget to check out Tyler Perry as Alex Cross in James Patterson’s book by the same name in theaters Friday. Perry reprises the role made famous by everyone’s favorite actor, Morgan Freeman, who starred in “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.”

Perry told fans in a recent email “‘Alex Cross’ is a thrill ride from beginning to end. With movies, a lot of times the trailer is better than the movie. Not in this case. ‘Alex Cross’ delivers on so many levels.

You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait for you to see it! You be the judge! You be the judge!”

OK, Perry we’ll be the judge. Many question if his seemingly built-in audience will support him in this film. My guess is yes. And if Perry will have cross-over appeal, that remains to be seen. “Alex Cross” in theaters Friday.
