CENTURY CITY, Calif. — President Barack Obama will be in Los Angeles this weekend for fundraisers and appearances, and motorists were warned today about possible traffic delays on the Westside and downtown.
The major event is an afternoon “30 Days to Victory” fundraiser concert and rally at the Nokia Theater, at L.A. Live downtown. It will feature performances by Jon Bon Jovi, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry and Earth, Wind and Fire.
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, who delivered the keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention, will speak. Rallying remarks by the president are likely at about 6 p.m.
Prior to that, the president is scheduled to arrive at an undisclosed location in the Beverly Hills area Sunday afternoon. Los Angeles police warned of traffic restrictions on Pico Boulevard and Avenue of the Stars between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, as well as on Sunset Boulevard between Beverly Glen Drive near UCLA and Doheny Drive in West Hollywood.
The president’s campaign press office would not disclose any details about any possible events in that area on Sunday, however.
Road closures will be in effect from 3-5 p.m. on Sunset Boulevard from Doheny west to Beverly Glen, and on Whittier Drive in Beverly Hills, north of the Beverly Hilton.
Between 5 and 7 p.m., the president will make his way from Century City to downtown Los Angeles. LAPD warned of traffic issues on Avenue of the Stars in Century City, Motor Avenue in Cheviot Hills and the Nokia Theater area near L.A. Live downtown.
There was no confirmation that the presidential motorcade would use the Santa Monica (10) Freeway across the city, but that route links the two closure areas.
More traffic restrictions downtown and in the Century City area were forecast for 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
