LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A woman whose body was found burning in a South Los Angeles street was the victim of a homicide, the coroner’s office announced tonight.

The Los Angeles Police Department has the case listed as a “death investigation,” Officer Sara Faden said.

The body was found at 319 W. 94th St., near Broadway, around 9:40 p.m. Monday, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Someone called authorities to report that the body was burning in the street, prompting a response by firefighters and police, said Los Angeles police Lt. Andy Neiman of the Media Relations Section.

The woman’s name has not been released because her relatives have not been notified, coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral said.
