The city of Los Angeles Empowerment Congress Southwest Area (ECSW) and the Community and Neighbors of the Ninth District for Unity (CANNDUNC) neighborhood councils will hold their elections Oct. 20, and the deadline to submit an application is Sept. 20 by 5 p.m. Both councils are searching for candidates to fill the available board positions.

Being apart of a neighborhood council enables individuals to help improve neighborhoods; be a liaison between your neighborhood and the city; hold elected officials accountable; as well as have a voice in economic development and land use in your community.

In order to qualify to run, you must live, work, attend school/church, own a business or property or declare a stake within the ECSW or CANNDUNC boundaries. Interested candidates for ECSW can apply at www.EmpowerLA.org and those interested in CANNDUNC should apply at www.EmpowerLA.org/CANNDUNC. Residents in the CANNDUNC area vote Oct. 20 between 10 a.m.-4.p.m. at Ascot Public Library, 120 W. Florence Ave., L.A. Residents of ECSW vote on the same day.
