USC alumna and trustee Verna B. Dauterive, Ed.D., stands between USC President C. L. Max Nikias and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas during groundbreaking on the campus for Verna and Peter Dauterive Hall. Dauterive, 89, a Louisiana native, pledged $30 million to name the first interdisciplinary social sciences building on the campus. She and her late husband, Peter, met in the Doheny Library on the campus. The 110,000-square-foot building will stand six stories high. The dedication was held on Sept. 5.
