A Cal State Los Angeles professor was named the new dean of Loyola Marymount University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts.

Bryant Keith Alexander will join LMU on July 1, replacing Barbara Busse, who served as dean for a decade, according to an LMU statement. At Cal State, Alexander has been interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters and acting chair of the Liberal Studies Department.

“I am extremely excited about joining the College of Communication and Fine Arts as the new dean,” Alexander said in a statement. “I look forward to working collaboratively with students, faculty and staff towards our joint academic, professional and personal goals as these align with the larger university mission and vision.”

Alexander joined the faculty at Cal State LA in 1998 after serving on the faculties of Minnesota State University, Moorhead, Texas A&M University and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, from which he earned a doctorate in speech communication.

“He brings scholarly work that encompasses both communication studies and the performance aspects of art, a vision of interdisciplinary collaboration, and the administrative experience to move the college in exciting directions by working with faculty and staff to craft the next college strategic plan,” Joseph B. Hellige, LMU’s executive vice president and provost, said in a statement.
