The sixth annual Tribute to SHeroes Awards ceremony, established by Sen. Curren Price, honored 26 local women at an event at the Olympic Collection. Among those honored at the May 6 ceremony were: Manal J. Aboelata (South L.A.), Eno Attah Meekins (Jefferson Park/USC), Melba Carter (Leimert Park/Crenshaw), Lydia Cincore-Templeton, Esq. (Ladera/ Baldwin Hills), Faith Culbreth (Miracle Mile/Mid-Wilshire), Kita S. Curry, Ph.D. (Culver City), Jolly Glover (South L.A.), Toni Golden (Ladera/ Baldwin Hills), Donna Grayson (Miracle Mile/ Mid-Wilshire), Lorri Jean (Hollywood Hills), Mi Ja Kim (Koreatown), Dr. Tumani Leatherwood (Ladera/ Baldwin Hills), Shauna McClure (Hollywood/ Hollywood Hills), Donna C. Myrow (Ladera/ Baldwin Hills), Maria Patrocinio Chavez (Culver City), Lisa Cleri Reale (Miracle Mile/MidWilshire), Janette Robinson Flint (Los Feliz/ Silverlake), Rosa Russell (Miracle Mile/ Mid-Wilshire), Beth Ryan (Pico-Robertson), Laurie Sanders-Taylor (South L.A.), Barbara J. Shields (Ladera/ Baldwin Hills), Barbara Silverstein (Culver City), Effie Mae Sims (Leimert Park/Crenshaw), Alexandra Suh (Koreatown), Terri Tippit (West L.A./ Century City/Rancho Park) and Patricia Waters (Leimert Park/Crenshaw). Price gave a special honor of the Rose Award to Maria Elena Durazo of the L.A. County Federation of Labor for her many years of public service. Natalie Cole, founder/CEO/publisher of Our Weekly newspaper, delivered the keynote address, and the Rev. John Cager of Second A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles delivered the invocation. KTLA’s Michaela Pereira served as mistress of ceremony.
