Three men used a hammer to shatter glass cases and made off with jewelry in a “smash-and-grab” robbery at a Zales store in the Westside Pavilion shopping center in West Los Angeles Wednesday.

The robbery was reported at 8:32 p.m., said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations office.

Witnesses told police the suspects fled to a car in the mall parking structure, with one of them jumping into the car’s trunk, before driving off, she said.

They escaped with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and left the hammer behind, Eisenman said.

A vehicle description was not available, but police believe its license plate number is 6UDK307, Eisenman said.
