The Rev. Edell Shepherd, husband to Genevieve Shepherd, Ph.D., principal of Tom Bradley Environmental Science and Humanities Magnet School, died Tuesday after suffering complications from an earlier stroke. He was 78.

Shepherd, who spent most of his life as a computer technician and teacher, was also very involved in the church and the proper upbringing of today’s youth.

“He was a strong advocate for Christian education and very involved with Sunday school,” said his wife. “He was passionate about grooming the young people and worked as a mentor. His motto was to put an emphasis on building children so that you don’t have to repair men and women.”

Shepherd is survived by his wife, Genevieve; three children, Edell Lugene, Deborah and Jaime; three grandchildren, Edell, Gene and Chase, and three great grandchildren Caleb, Bryce and Wes.

Services will be held Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Peace Apostolic Church, 21224 Figueroa St., Carson.
