Bonnie Pointer of the Pointer Sisters arrested

LOS ANGELES, Calif.–Bonnie Pointer, a founding member of the Pointer Sisters singing group, was arrested today for possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop in the unincorporated Athens area of south Los Angeles, authorities said.

Patricia “Bonnie” Pointer, 61, was arrested at about 12:40 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 125th Street, the sheriff’s department reported.

Pointer was booked for possession of a controlled substance and was released about 4:30 a.m. after posting $10,000 bail, the sheriff’s department reported. The type of substance allegedly involved in the case was not immediately released.

Pointer was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17 in Inglewood Court.

The Pointer Sisters achieved success in the 1970s and 1980s with such hits as “Slow Hand” and “Neutron Dance.”
