BALDWIN VILLAGE – One person was killed today and another was wounded in a shooting in the courtyard of an apartment building in the Crenshaw district.

Skipp Townsend, community interventionist identified the deceased as Thurmond Price who was in 20’s.

The other young man who was wounded is undergoing surgergy and was identified as Dwayne Rodgers.

“Thurmond was into playing basketball, he was not gang releated.,” Townsend related.  “No street name, he was just Thurmond.  He was a part of the Summer Night Lights program and a participant of Community Build and GRYD.  It’s just a real tragedy.”

The shooting on Nicolet Avenue at Coco Avenue occurred around 12:30 a.m., said Sgt. Paul Lawson of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Station.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was transported to a hospital, a camera crew reported from the shooting site.

Their names were not immediately released.

LAPD investigators were at the crime scene this morning. There were no immediate arrests.
