INGLEWOOD (CNS) – A 61-year-old man was struck and killed as a car smashed into his pickup truck which he was loading, pushing him back and into the path of another vehicle, police said today.

The accident occurred at 2:34 p.m. Sunday at the El Super Market at 3321
W. Century Blvd., three blocks west of Crenshaw Boulevard, said Lt. Oscar
Serrano of the Inglewood Police Department.

Detectives determined that the driver of a 2000 Lexus accelerated
instead of putting on the brakes while parking,    Serrano said. The Lexus went
over a parking median and collided with a Ford Ranger parked in the adjacent
stall.

The impact pushed the Ranger backward, hitting Jose Asuncion Aguirre who
was loading items into the truck bed, who then was struck by a 2001 GMC Yukon.

Aguirre sustained major trauma and was taken to a hospital where he died.

The Lexus driver left but returned to the accident scene about 30
minutes later and cooperated with detectives.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the collision was asked to call Inglewood Police Traffic Investigator Jeff LaGreek at (310) 412-5134.
