Nix Financial, Kinecta Federal Credit Union and NuVision Federal Credit Union Partner with Parents of Watts to Donate 200 Back-To-School Kits to Local Elementary Students

Youth Savings Emphasized to Help Develop Early Money Management Habits

WATTS- Nix Financial, Kinecta Federal Credit Union (Kinecta) and NuVision Federal Credit Union (NuVision) recently made the first day of school a little bit easier for hundreds of Watts and Compton area elementary students.

The three financial service providers recently partnered with “Sweet” Alice Harris and her Parents of Watts organization to assemble and donate more than 200 backpacks filled with school supplies that were distributed to local youth during the 2nd Annual Back-to-School Block Party in Watts on August 20th.

All backpacks and supplies were donated by employees and customers of Nix Financial, Kinecta and NuVision in a summer-long campaign to collect needed school materials.

Beyond preparing children for school, the event also emphasized preparing youth for a successful financial future.  Nix and Kinecta representatives joined with Harris in encouraging parents to open complimentary Kinecta savings accounts for their children, with nearly 100 youth accounts applications accepted during the event.

“There is no better way to prepare our young people for a successful future than helping them develop good savings habits at an early age,” said Sweet Alice Harris.  “Through these types of partnerships, we’re helping children understand what it means to save, giving them access to opening savings accounts here in the community and providing the tools that will make a real difference in their lives.”

Also during the event, Harris shared the story of Danielle Sandoval, a 10-year-old who managed to save $700 over two years by making $5 and $10 deposits at a time.
