Lula Washington Dance Theatre (LWDT) will join the Keshet Chayim Dance Ensemble, the Agape International Choir, Grammy winner Macy Gray, pioneer female rapper MC Lyte, Israeli song sensation Haral Skaat and R&B singer Abraham McDonald for an evening of dance and music Sunday at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater.

The program is entitled “Rhythm and Roots” and is designed as a sharing of cultures through music and dance. It is produced by Keshet Chayim Dance Ensemble, a Jewish dance company based in Los Angeles. The company’s mission is to break down cultural barriers through the arts.
Proceeds from the benefit concert will go toward Keshet Chayim’s education programs and Children Uniting Nations, an advocacy group for youth in foster care.

LWDT will perform “Global Village,” which had its formal premiere in China in May. The company will also perform Donald McKayle’s “Angelitos Negros,” a cry for black angels to be included in the church paintings about heaven.

Special discount tickets may be purchased for $20 at www.kcdancers.org and putting in the coupon code: Lula20, or by calling the Keshet Chayim Dance Ensemble at (818) 986-7332 and mentioning Lula Washington Dance Theatre.

The program will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Amphitheatre at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd., East Hollywood. On-site parking is $5 per vehicle, but free shuttle service will be available at the Universal City Metro Station lot at Lankershim Blvd. and Campo de Cahuenga. The shuttle stops in the “kiss and ride” area and cycles every 15-20 minutes. Patrons are encouraged to dress warmly for outdoor seating.
