LOS ANGELES, Calif.–The sheriff’s Transit Service Bureau announced today it is reinstating its Police Explorer Program for youth ages 15 to 21 interested in a career in law enforcement.

The agency that provides law enforcement services to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has seven locations where Explorers will be assigned to a variety of jobs.

Explorer academies are being established at the Stars Center in Whittier and at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Further information is available at www.starsexploreracademy.org and www.northacademyexplorers.org.

“We will register successful applicants at the academy location of their choice,” said Detective Cris Reyes, who is heading up the program.

“I’m really looking forward to working with young people who want to get started in a law enforcement career or those who just want to help better their community.”

Applications must be submitted to Reyes by Aug. 12. Successful applicants are required to pass an oral interview, complete a pre-academy physical and successfully pass a thorough background investigation.

More information is available by calling (213) 922-3787 or emailing careyes@lasd.org.
