High school coaches to be honored at Farmers Classic Tennis Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif.–Jim Buck, who coached at Van Nuys High School for 33 years, will receive a lifetime achievement award today at a luncheon held in conjunction with the 85th annual Farmers Classic men’s tennis tournament at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA.

Although he retired from Van Nuys High School in 1998, Buck is a volunteer assistant coach with the USC women’s tennis team and is active in junior tennis in Southern California.

During the luncheon, 14 Southern California high school coaches who guided their teams to divisional championships in either the Los Angeles City Section or Southern Section during the 2010-2011 school year will also be honored.

The coaches to be honored are Brett Ackerman (Linfield Christian); Eric Biddle (Arlington); Randy Blalock (Palm Desert); Martin Garcia (Hamilton); Sally Kane (Bell); John Kessler (University); Travis Kikugawa (Viewpoint); Bud Kling (Palisades Charter); Steve Kuechel (Campbell Hall); A. G. Longoria (Sage Hill); Ronald Machuca (San Marino); Simon Robertshaw (Granada Hills Charter); Sue Sherman (Buckley); and Rick Trager (St. Margaret’s).
