PALMDALE, Calif.–Two alleged gang members, including a 16-year-old boy, were charged today with murder in the stabbing death of an 18-year-old man in Palmdale last month.

Andrew Sabo, 20, and Alex Ortega, 16, are scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the Lancaster courthouse in connection with the Nov. 17 slaying of Erwin Velasquez, who was attacked in the 38500 block of Larkin Avenue.

The murder charge includes the allegation that the killing was at the direction of, or to benefit, a street gang.

The two were arrested Thursday, after Operations Safe Streets deputies and a special weapons and tactics team served search warrants in Palmdale.

Sabo and Ortega were being held on $1 million bail each.

Anyone with further information about Velasquez’ death was urged to call the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
