Westside Neighborhood School’s (WNS) middle school girl’s varsity volleyball team recently won its fifth Pacific Basin League Championship, after a resounding set of victories against the Archer School for Girls volleyball team, 25-12 in the first game and 25-10 in the second game.

This special group of 12 girls, under the guidance of Chip Schulte, worked hard to become a cohesive team. Their work ethic, determination and coming together as a team over the course of the season, was a key to their win.

In the first playoff match against the Willows Middle School team, WNS prevailed, 25-11, 25-9. Playing in the semifinals the following day against Crossroads Middle School, the WNS varsity won in the same fashion 25-11, 25-9. The team ran through three matches in the playoffs without losing a single game.

As a result of winning the finals match, WNS captured its fifth championship trophy for volleyball in the past eight years, and its players are indelibly inked into WNS history.

In the past, many of the girls who have played for WNS have gone on to play for quality area high school volleyball programs, including Marymount, Windward, Vistamar, and Bishop Montgomery; some have even continued to play at the collegiate level.
