FULLERTON, Calif.–Authorities today identified one of two people killed in a two-vehicle crash on the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway in Fullerton.
The crash was reported at 11:34 p.m. Monday just west of Brookhurst Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver and sole occupant of a 2002 BMW 325i, identified as Douglas Robert McFarland, 25, of Torrance, died at the scene, said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The BMW had been involved in a solo-vehicle accident and had come to rest sideways in the carpool lane. That’s when a 2005 Nissan Murano SUV slammed into the passenger side of the BMW, the CHP reported.
An 86-year-old Long Beach woman riding in the back seat of the Nissan died at a hospital, the CHP reported. Her name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
The driver of the Nissan, a 46-year-old Long Beach man, and his front-seat passenger, a 49-year-old Long Beach man, were hospitalized with major injuries, the CHP reported.
Their relationship to the woman, if any, is not known.
