‘Blue September’

LOS ANGELES – Some prominent buildings and structures in and around Hollywood will be illuminated blue tonight as part of an effort to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

The Capitol Records building, the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel and the Melrose Gate and Water Tower at Paramount Studios are among the recognizable structures that will be bathed in blue light as part of the Blue September campaign.

“Capitol Records hopes that by turning the tower blue, it will capture the public’s attention on the great work that ‘Blue September’ is doing to raise awareness for early detection of prostate cancer.

It’s our small part in making a big difference,” said Jim Kuha, senior director of EMI Music North
America.

The Blue September campaign is a fundraising effort to benefit The Prostate Cancer Research Institute. Organizers said the campaign hopes to spread the message that prostate cancer claims as many lives each year as breast cancer, but receives far less public attention.

According to the institute, more than 27,000 American men are expected to die from prostate cancer this year, and more than 2 million Americans live with the disease.
